Tandem Kayak
By Peter Gitundu
In the past, kayaks could only accommodate a single person. However, with its growing popularity as the most adventurous water sport, Tandem kayak is here to give you a glamorous opportunity to enjoy kayaking with your spouse, child, friend or even your pet. It accommodates two people and it’s suitable for beginners or those who are a little nervous about being alone in water.
What even interesting, the second person doesn’t have to paddle they can just sit back and enjoy the thrilling and adventurous tour of water ways. They are much wider than the ordinary kayaks so stability and safety is guaranteed for you and your kayaking partner.
Sometimes back it would have been impossible for a family especially with small children to enjoy kayaking together. Today tandem kayaks has made it possible and yes we can enjoy it with our young kids. It has multiple seating arrangements that allow children to stay together and adults to keep an eye on them. Sitting arrangement is important so as to maintain harmony among the whole crew. It could be according to weight, practicality, preferences or experience. For instance, experienced person in rear can properly direct the kayak.
Team spirit is important in kayaking. It’s advisable to work as a team and maintain good communication with your partner at all times. Even though your partner may be in it just to enjoy the ride, when you paddle both of you then kayaking will be much simpler and quicker. Tandem kayak may be of different meaning to different people but you’ll agree with me it’s known universally to be truly versatile and fun water sport from small lake to ocean.

How Dangers Of Parachuting Can Be Counteracted With A Military Parachuting Manual
by John Ewing
A military parachuting manual can be a very helpful text. Parachuting is one of the most dangerous activities available. Simple problems like having an improperly folded parachute can kill you. Moreover, not clearing the plane in an appropriate descent is very dangerous.
The parachutist must also have all of the appropriate equipment in order to survive. Military parachuting manuals offer information on a number of topics. One United States Army manual contains information that not only helps the crew understand their duties both in the ground and on the air during a jump, but it also discusses key positions within a jump unit, the equipment necessary for a jump, and the jump protocol.
The Royal Air Corps military parachuting manual lays out a number of different rules for student parachutists before they are allowed to have the ability to jump. A ground crew must be able to send a message to the plane communicating wind direction and speed.
They must also be allowed to abort the mission if necessary. This helps to keep the jumpers safe. Also, all jumpers have to have two reserve systems in the event of a jumping emergency. Moreover, students must jump with approved, certified coaches to keep them safe.
Along with that, students will not be cleared to jump by themselves until they have undergone the necessary training and certification procedures.
In order to become certified, students have to under go a series of jumps at different heights.
The Royal Air Corps military parachuting manual also discusses the criteria for parachutist recruit selection. This helps to ensure that only the fittest candidates get the job.
Military parachuting is rigorous, and the rules in the manual help decide who is best to undergo the tough tasks. Recruits spend two weeks building up endurance and stamina levels on fitness courses. They are then tested on their ability to deal with mental stress, as they will face those types of situations while parachuting.
Once these tests are passed, they are allowed to begin parachute training.
There are a number of different military parachuting manuals. It is standard procedure for members of many different military forces to familiarize themselves with them, as they contain information on everything from the fitting of the parachute to water landings. A military parachute manual is a very helpful piece of literature.

What Sports Are Played in the Olympics?
By Ian Pennington
There is always a question about how many sports are played in the Summer and Winter Olympics and also exactly what sports are they? These questions can be answered if you can get a hold of an official Olympic sport list.
Currently there are 26 sports in the Summer Olympics and 7 sports in the Winter Olympics. Each sport may have more than one discipline or event that is used in competition at the Olympics. An example of this would be swimming. There were 34 swimming events in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. This is in contrast to basketball for example. Basketball only has 2 events, men’s basketball and women’s basketball. In order for a basketball player to win as many gold medals in his career as Michael Phelps won in the Beijing Olympics he would have to be on the national Olympic team for over 30 years!
The Summer Olympics have 302 events on the Olympic sport list in Beijing and in the 2010 Winter Olympics there will be 86 events. These numbers change slightly each Olympic games because the International Olympic Committee approve new sports and discontinue other sports. The most recent change is going to be baseball and softball will be dropped for the next Summer Olympics. The International Olympic Committee makes their decision based on the number of countries that participate and if there is a governing body for that sport. If there is a governing body by which the sport can be judged and it is widely participated in worldwide then it is looked at by the International Olympic Committee for addition to the Olympic sport list at the next Olympic games.
Another interesting note is that there are currently 32 sports that are recognized by the International Olympic Committee as sport but are not contested in the Olympic games. Of these 32 sports two will be selected for the 2016 Summer Olympics by the International Olympic Committee at a meeting in 2009 in Copenhagen. They are considering seven sports for the two spots: softball, baseball, golf, rugby, squash, karate and roller sports.
One rule that is in place when choosing a sport for the Olympics is that the primary propulsion used in a race can not be mechanical. This rule is followed strictly now but in the early days of the modern Olympic games there were power boating events! Technology has advanced to the point that this would be engineering and not physical ability that would decide the winner. Something that goes against what the Olympics is all about.
Remember next time you are watching the Olympics, whether the Summer Olympics or the Winter Olympics, that there are a lot more events than you will see in prime time and many of them are very entertaining. Try and find something you enjoy that has a star athlete who you won’t see on the cover of a cereal box or in a shoe commercial.

2008 Japanese Grand Prix
by Henri Boulanger
Spain’s Fernando Alonso accomplished a hard-won victory at this year’s Japanese Grand Prix. Immediately after the race, Alonso said, “I cannot believe it right now and back-to-back wins is a great feeling. It is completely amazing.” He went on to say, “We were second when we stopped for the first time and I wanted to exit the pits in front of Robert.”
Championship Title Leaders Battle it Out
Formula One championship title rivals Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa made minor mistakes and were each penalized for different reasons during the course of the race. Hamilton had a rough start as he was defending his starting pole position from Kimi Raikkonen. He broke too late for the first corner. The car went off the track, taking Raikkonen with him. This incident cost Hamilton his first penalty of the race. It also demoted him to behind Massa at 6th position.
Hamilton tried to pass Massa during the second lap, which resulted in a collision between the two. This time it was Massa who hit the brakes too late while trying to defend his position and tapped Hamilton’s car, causing the Englishman to spin as he re-entered the track. Hamilton had to wait for the rest of the field to pass him before he was able to make a safe entry back onto the track. He was immediately called into the pits to replace his tires, which suffered damage from the spin and hard breaking.
The penalty this time was Massa’s for causing the collision. After receiving their penalties, the two were cast to the back of the pack. Hamilton was a few seconds behind Massa. Massa finished the race in eighth on the track but seventh in final standings after Sebastien Bourdais’ 25-second penalty was factored into the final standings.
When asked about his penalties, Hamilton stated, “I went wide at turn one; it was a mistake, and then Felipe hit me off. I went on the inside and he broke left and hit me pretty hard.” He also said, “What can I say? it was a bad day, I’ll move on to next week.” Quite a few of F1’s most popular blogs sympathised with Lewis.
Alonso vs. Kubica
Robert Kubica raced a hard race for first against Fernando Alonso. “Twelve points behind the leader with two races to go. Anything can happen,” Kubica said. His well-earned first position spot was lost to him during their first pit stop. Alonso risked the race by taking on less fuel during the final pit stop. Kubica finished the race in second position, only five seconds behind Alonso.
Kubica has made quite an impression this Formula One season. Race fans are anxiously anticipating his moves for the final two races of the season. Kubica currently has 72 points and is only 12 points behind Lewis Hamilton for the 2008 Championship title and just 6 points behind Felipe Massa. Kimi Raikkonen follows Kubica with 63 points and Nick Heidfeld, rounding out the top 5 with 56 points.
Championship Anxiety
The Formula One World Championship race is quickly coming to an end. With only two races left in the season, Lewis Hamilton’s lead fell to five points after his 12th position finish at the Japanese Grand Prix. The 2008 Formula One championship races have proven to be some of the most exciting races in Formula One’s history. Race fans, drivers and their teams are looking forward to the final two races of the season to see which driver emerges on top!
