The accuracy of a paintball gun depends on many factors. There is no one single element that can be tweaked or modified to improve accuracy; it is many elements all working together that leads to the best accuracy possible. Due to all these variables, and the fact that paintballs themselves are inconsistent makes it hard for the paintball enthusiast to shoot with confidence. But there are certain areas to be mindful of to tip the odds in your favor.

Paint Quality

This is the number one factor affecting accuracy. Accurate flight relies on consistent bore size, roundness and seam size. This is the one variable players have the least control over, and the variable that it most affected by the weather. Hot and cold weather play havoc with paintball consistency.

Velocity

This is also a huge factor in accuracy. You are looking for consistency here. The more consistent the pressure is in your gun the more consistent the velocity will be resulting in a better grouping of shots. Keep an eye on controlling the pressure of the high-pressure air or CO2 gas used to operate your gun. Keeping your gun clean and well lubed will also help you get accurate results.

Maintenance

One of the most basic things you can control is making sure your gun is running at optimum performance every time you take the field. Make sure old lubricants are cleaned off the internals and that the seals are tight. You want to ensure your gun fires the same way every time. After each paintball session do a visual inspection to make sure all the moving parts are in order. No one else is going to check to make sure your gun is operating smoothly. It’s your responsibility.

Barrel Quality

For consistent contact between the barrel and the paintball the barrel should be smooth and free of scratches. The barrel should also be true as it screws into the gun. The slightest variation could throw off the aim. Barrel materials come in a wide variety including brass, aluminum, stainless steel and carbon fiber. There are advantages and disadvantages for each material ranging from smoothness to cost.

Barrel length and rifling are also two factors many consider as they pursue accuracy. First, barrel length is a personal preference. Contrary to popular belief barrel length has nothing to do with accuracy. The same rules do not apply to paintballs as they do for bullets. Which is the same reason rifling doesn’t improve accuracy either.

Paintball gun accuracy is elusive. But with proper maintenance, good paint quality, consistent velocity and a smooth barrel you can increase your odds at hitting what you’re aiming for.

With this new information you should be well on your way to paintball shooting success. There is no reason to participate if you can’t aim your barrel accurately. Isn’t the goal to hit the opponent? With these tips you should be a “dead eye” out on that field. What are you possibly waiting for? Get out there today!

Bowhunting Tips and Techniques

Bowhunting Tips and Techniques

Now that you’ve got all your equipment ready, it’s time to go out to the field and try bowhunting! Here are some tips and techniques to make your bowhunting experience a successful one.

• Make sure you have the proper form when shooting. The basic steps in archery include drawing the string, aiming at the target, and releasing the arrow. It is important that you maintain the proper stance all throughout the process. If you’re just starting out, take some lessons about the proper form and way of holding equipment from an archery instructor or from the local archery shop. It is also advisable to join your local archery club so that you can learn more tips from the experts.

• Minimize scent and noise. These are the two biggest reasons why bowhunters fail. Remove the scent from your body and your clothing by using unscented soaps. Avoid going near campfires and other things that have string odors. Use scent eliminators or cover scents to keep from getting noticed.

• Choose quiet equipment. When you can, choose tools that produce little noise. Also, get yourself accessories that can reduce the amount of sound produced. Use a bow stabilizer in order to absorb noise and string silencers in order to minimize the vibrations produced by the bowstring.

• Before going out to hunt, make sure that your equipment is ready and secure. Check the screws to make sure they are fastened, align the sights and ensure that they are intact, and make sure that your equipment is in proper working order. It is also important to learn how to tune your bow and acquire some basic knowledge on simple repairs of your equipment, in case they break down during the hunt.

• Do your research. It is best to do some research before you actually hunt. Read about your prey, study the terrain where you will be hunting and exchange shooting techniques with experts in the field. There are numerous resources available to you, including books, hunting magazines, websites and online forums.

• Know when and where to aim. Remember that a broadhead arrow kills by causing massive bleeding in the target. Thus, it is important that you aim for vital organs, such as the lungs, in order to kill fast. Shoot when your target is relaxed or pre-occupied with something else. Do not shoot when the animal has its ears in a forward position, as you will probably be heard.

• Practice. The only way to master bowhunting is to keep on practicing. Get to know your equipment very well and master its use. Practice shooting at various distances and heights, while wearing your hunting gear, in order to simulate the environment you will be shooting in. Going to an archery range and mastering your technique on 3-D targets will help. However, you will find that there is a big difference when shooting a moving animal as opposed to a stationary target; so go out in the field and hunt!
